Coast Guard assists boat aground on Parramore Island, Va.

WACHAPREAGUE, Va. – Coast Guard crews are assisting three crew members of a recreational vessel that ran aground Friday morning on Parramore Island near Wachapreague.

The crew aboard the 71-foot vessel, Laura J, called Coast Guard watchstanders after they ran aground near Parramore Island at approximately 9:30 a.m.

A 25-foot rescue boat crew from Station Wachapreague is on scene providing assistance and an MH-60T Jayhawk helicopter from Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C., is en route to help assess the situation.

Laura J has approximately 9,000 gallons of diesel fuel on board, but there is no sign of pollution or debris. Coast Guard personnel are working to ensure the vessel’s crew and the local environment remain safe.
