Coast Guard crew, Good Samaritans rescue 6 near Cape May, N.J.

CAPE MAY, N.J. - The Coast Guard and Good Samaritans Sunday rescued six people aboard a 46-foot boat three miles off the coast of Cape May.

The Coast Guard received a call at 8 a.m. from a crewman aboard the Nor' Easter II reporting they were taking on water and needed assistance.

Good Samaritans responding to a Coast Guard broadcast transferred four of the passengers ashore.

A rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Cape May arrived on scene and pumped the water off the boat. The rescue crew also repaired the source of the leak.

The rescue boat crew towed the Nor' Easter II and the two crewmen to South Jersey Marina in Cape May.

"We arrived just in time with a dewatering pump to keep the Nor' Easter II from sinking," said Petty Officer 2nd Class Jared Meloro, a crewmember at Station Cape May.
