Coast Guard cutter returns to Portsmouth, Va. |

PORTSMOUTH, Va. - The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Harriet Lane is scheduled to return to their homeport of Portsmouth, Va., Tuesday following a 31-day patrol which included migrant interdiction operations and a community relations project in Nassau, Bahamas. Harriet Lane's crew intercepted two go-fast vessels with 15 migrants and four suspected smugglers. They also served as the holding platform for 25 additional migrants interdicted by other Coast Guard crews. An HH-65C Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Corpus Christi, Texas, traveled with the cutter to conduct law enforcement patrols. During their stop in Nassau, almost two dozen of Harriet Lane's crew volunteered their time to paint rooms and fences, remove trash and take care of maintenance at a local orphanage, the Ranfurly Home for Children. "The Harriet Lane crew again demonstrated their hard work and professional expertise in executing a variety of Coast Guard missions during this last patrol," said Cmdr. J.W. McKinley, Harriet Lane's commanding officer. "We are very happy to be returning home to our very supportive families for the holidays." The Harriet Lane is a 270-foot medium-endurance cutter. |
